The Museum is located in the Latsi Building next to the Museum of Ancient Greek Technology. It includes 42 ancient Greek musical instruments along with detailed descriptions and diagrams. These instruments were built by Kostas Kotsanas after much research and study. The instruments are fully functional and their craftsmanship is based on ancient Greek writings and pottery illustrations.
The women's monastery is located near the eponymous town whose feast day is celebrated on the Dormition of the Virgin Mary (August 15th). The monastery was built in the 6th Century and today the Holy Monastery of Skafidias has become a major tourist attraction. It also has a museum containing various relics were according to legend, the Monastery got its name either from ancient Pheira or because it is shaped like a trough (skafidi is the Greek word for trough)
In 1964, with the founder of the Museum as donor, the museum came under the supervision of the Greek Olympic Comitee. Then in 1972, with funds provided by the General Secretariat of Athletics, the Museum of the Modern Olympic Games was built.
In its first few years of operation, the agora was made of wood. In 1890, at the initiative of the then-mayor Petros Avgerinos, work began to build the agora out of stone. This project was based on studies conducted by one of the most famous architects of that era, Ernst Ziller. Today, the Ancient Public is like an archaeological museum in the city of Pyrgos. Also, around the Museum there are traditional coffee shops and workshops that manufacture old artifacts and various other items.
The ancient city- state of Ilida developed in North West Peloponnesus, far away from the big city centres of the rest of Greece and it didn't play an important role to the military and cultural actions that took place. It was in the forefront however, for a long time since it had the custody of the Greek temple of Olympia and the flawless organization of the Olympic Games.
The Mercouri Estate is located in the western Peloponnesus in Korakochori, tow kilometers from Katakolo 12km from Pyrgos and 32km from Ancient Olympia. It is an old large farm with a 140- year-old history in the production of wine, olive oil and, before that, Corinthian currant raisins. It is owned by the Mercouri family which can trace its roots to Epirus and Peloponnesus. They are family with a variety of interests who have a special love for the land.
